We are located at 6003 Bullard Avenue (old Laser Tag/Big Lots building, across from Wal-Mart on Bullard) in New Orleans East just off the I-10 next to Papa John’s, in front of the old Schwegmann’s.
We provide yellow school bus service to students with the choice of opting into RTA bus service if it is more convenient for the family.
We serve grades 9 – 11 during the 2020-21 school year and we’ll be adding a grade each year until we’re a fully built-out 9-12 high school with no more than 80 students per grade.
Yes! Living School is designed to help every student graduate with both a college-ready diploma, a trade certification, a living-wage job offer, and the habits of a healthy life. We learn in a multi-disciplinary, project-based way, all while helping students earn the credits and certifications they need to succeed at whatever they want to do after high school.
We will offer two career pathways in-house as well as individualized career planning pathways that partner with local colleges, programs and universities all with a focus on trade skills & entrepreneurship:
- Construction & Engineering (architecture, engineering, & skilled trades)
- Food Systems & Environment (agriculture, coastal resilience, & water management)
We offer many holistic wellness courses including dance, yoga, self defense, theatre, and music production. Additionally, as a democratic school, we’ll help students organize the teams, clubs, and extracurricular opportunities they want to see.

We want to help students explore a variety of career and life goals during their early years through job shadow rotations and the development of their Personal Life Vision.
We welcome personal tours to be scheduled any day that we’re open. We’re happy to connect you with any staff member of your choice or with Student Ambassadors who can speak to their experience as a student at Living School.
We are a new school that was born from a community organizing project that has involved over 600 New Orleanians and community members since 2012. We aren’t formally affiliated with any other schools or organizations, though we collaborate with many kindred folks around both New Orleans and the rest of the country.
